Cas-Ciac H1n1 Contingency Plan

The CAS and CIAC Boards have approved the following contingency plan in relation to CAS-CIAC events:

1. All CAS and CIAC activities will continue to be held as planned unless information received through the governor's office or the state commissioner's office directs or advises alternative measures.

2. Decisions of individual superintendents to allow his/her students to participate or not participate will be honored. If a school is closed and a superintendent approves of an individual's participation, it will be honored by CAS and CIAC.

3. All CIAC contests that are postponed due to swine flu concerns will be allowed to be made up to the fullest extent possible. The Sunday prohibition policy will be suspended for the specific purpose of playing postponed contests because of school closings due to swine flu.

4. Minimum established game standards necessary to qualify for tournament entry will be suspended on games not played because of swine flu cancellations.

5. No league tournament contest can be scheduled or rescheduled in place of regular season contests.

6. The date of championship finals will be held as planned and will only change by action of the CIAC Board of Control. However, all tournament games prior to that time will be scheduled with the maximum flexibility possible to accommodate individual schools impacted by school closings. This includes playing contests on Sunday in accordance with CIAC Sunday rule provisions. The decision to allow a team to participate in a scheduled tournament contest when school is closed rests with the district superintendent.

7. Tournaments will proceed with those school teams that are available to play. This may require game forfeitures from those schools affected by school closings.

8. NEW - Added 11/6/09: If necessary due to H1N1-related issues, schools will be allowed to make changes to their tournament rosters at any point during the tournament. The changes allowed include adding and removing athletes. No athlete who was not on the eligibility list during the regular season may be added. Rosters must still adhere to the maximums stated in each tournament packet. Changes cannot be made at game sites without prior approval. Changes must be requested in the normal manner (via submission of a support ticket through the online eligibility center). In the sports of swimming and track these changes may include the addition of athletes for participation in relay events only, no athletes can be added to individual events after the seeding deadlines.
