Cas-Ciac Offers Workshop On Two Critical Legal Issues
Two sets of recently published guidelines/requirements, one by the US Department of Education in conjunction with OCR regarding participation of students with disabilities in extracurricular activities and another by the Connecticut Safe Schools Coalition entitled “Guidelines for Connecticut Schools to comply with GENDER IDENTITY AND EXPRESSION NON-DISCRIMINATION LAWS,” will have a significant impact on schools at all levels. CAS-CIAC is pleased to announce that a workshop will be held on March 25, 2013 at the CAS-CIAC office to explore the legal implications of these newly released guidelines. Attorneys Thomas Mooney and Julie Fay of Shipman & Goodwin LLP will provide guidance on how schools can comply with the federal laws governing disabled students (specifically Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973) as well as Connecticut’s non-discrimination law Public Act No.11-55 in regards to transgender students.
This workshop is open to all member school superintendents, administrators, athletic directors, guidance and special education directors. Seating will be limited so register early. To register please click on the following link:
