Dear Legal Mailbag: I have been keeping a careful eye on one of my teachers. He seems never to be around when I need him, and he is quite the slippery character. He always seems to have a good excuse for being unavailable when I am looking for him. However, what I do know is that he takes every personal day he has every year, as well as most of his sick leave. I was therefore quite annoyed by his gall when he told me that he wants to leave school early on Tuesdays to take a class. Continued

Registration for National Honor Society Conference Closing Soon
The CT Association of National Honor Societies Annual State Conference will take place at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell on Friday, May 23, 2014. The theme of this year's event is: Achieving Higher Levels of Leadership is an Inside-Out Process. A panel of extraordinary students will keynote the conference, illustrating the power of purpose-driven leadership to create lasting change and deeply impact individuals and the community.
The NHS Student Advisory Board issued a challenge to all CT NHS chapters to raise a minimum of $50 by May 15th to be combined and donated to the Connecticut Department of Veterans' Affairs. The donation will be presented to representatives of the CT VA at the May 23rd conference. MORE

CIAC Board Approves Bylaw Change Affecting Co-op Teams
At its monthly board meeting on May 1, the CIAC Board of Control approved a bylaw change giving the cooperative team committee the authority to deny co-op team requests if any of the schools applying were previously part of a disbanded co-op that left schools without a program in which to compete. Lead Connecticut Offers UCAPP Residency and Turnaround Talent Identification Programs
LEAD Connecticut has partnered with the University of Connecticut to establish a one-year paid UCAPP Residency Program to prepare the next generation of Turnaround Leaders. Participants will earn 092 certification and will be trained for a leadership position in a turnaround setting. LEAD Connecticut is also offering a Turnaround Talent Identification Program which is a year-long community of practice for candidates who hold 092 certification but are not yet in a leadership position. This program is for potential leaders who want to strengthen the fundamental turnaround skills described in the Turnaround Leadership Competencies. MORE
